Slovenia: Weekly Hike: Jeterbenk
Our sport and cultural society ŠKD Indijanci went on a third morning hike (5th overall). Our destination this time was Jeterbenk, 774 m. 4 guys and 1 dog (Hera), successfully conquered the top. The destination also offers a legend about the treasure of Jeterbenk's knights and it goes like this:
When Marjeta Hertenberch wanted to build the church of St. Marjeta, she somehow heard that there is a treasure form her ancestors under the old Jetrbenk fortress. She found a big pot with fortune. Because she couldn’t lift it by herself she called the blacksmiths to make strong and long chains to lift the treasure. With the help of oxen they began to lift it. When the people, helping to lift the treasure, saw the amount of gold they wanted to get the half. In affect, the chain broke, because of their thoughts, but fortunately there were two chains. Marjeta Hertenberg wanted to give the money for the church but when she saw the gold, she also wanted to keep the half for herself. Because of that, the second chain also broke and the whole treasure fell down again into the depths and got covered with stones and rocks. The treasure was never found again, and probably lies there till today.
