Slovenia: Soča Trail and New Year's Eve in Trenta

For today we chose a shorter hike, which is a part of Soča trail. Soča trail is the first nature trail in Triglav national park and it runs along the Soča river, from its source to the town of Bovec. We hiked the upper part of the trail to the village of Trenta and on our way we stopped at some interesting places.

In the evening we played rummy and when the New Year was a few minutes away from us, all the people from the 3 apartments gathered outside and together we counted the last seconds till the New Year.

Slovenia: Zadnjiški Ozebnik and Veliki Konj

In the morning my neighbour Borut and me decided to go hiking. We chose a less known peak called Zadnjiški Ozebnik. With a short detour we also conquered a mountain called Veliki Konj and in the end we made a nice 17 km roundtrip.

 

We signed in the "book", where a famous person Alojzij Žakelj also signed in a couple of days before we did. On the right, mountains Pihavec and Triglav.

In the evening, Nada and me decided to visit BOFF, Bovec Outdoor Film festival, where we saw three good movies. First one was Crossing Iceland, followed by Dodos Delight and Holy (Un)holy River.

Slovenia: Drive to Trenta with GeoCaching

With Nada we decided to spend the New Year in Trenta with our neighbours, so today after lunch we decided to drove there and on our way we picked up a couple of GeoCaches.

Slovenia: 4th Traditional Hike to Kriška gora, The Nutcracker (Hrestač)

Before New Year, Klemen, Dejan and me decided to go to our 4th traditional before New Year's eve hike. Our destination wanted to be the same as previous years, Kriška gora, 1471 m. Since the hut wasn't opened last year, we checked the opening hours this year, so that we wouldn't be disappointed again and we did a good call. The hut remained closed this year, so we rerouted our hike.

We started in Podljubelj and we ascended to the ridge, that is also the border between Austria and Slovenia. We followed it for some time, conquered the peaks called Povna peč, 1503 m, Vrh Ljubeljščice, 1704 m, and Spodnji Plot, 1682 m. Finally we descended to Dom na Zelenici mountain hut, 1536 m, where we had our first refreshment drink. Soon we returned back to the valley and the hike was complete.

In the evening we decided to see The Nutcracker - A Christmas Carol (Hrestač - Božična zgodba), a two-act ballet, originally choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov with a score by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

The Nutcracker – A Christmas Carol, created by the choreographer and director Youri Vámos is a great hit among our ballet lovers, as its magic conjures up to them the festive atmosphere every single Christmas and New Year Holiday. Story: The main character is a stingy misanthrope, who hates Christmas. His nightmares make him aware of all the wrong that he has caused in his life, so he repents and turns into a loving and generous man.

Slovenia: Midnight Mass on Velika Planina

This Christmas eve Tadej, Rok, Nada and me decided to go to Velika planina and attend a midnight mass in the mountains, in a Snow Mary chapel. Tadej, Rok and me chose a bit wilder approach, while Nada went for an easier route. We all met at the top and then we attended the ceremony.

Italy: Skiing in Dolomites: Day 4

On our last day of skiing in Dolomites, our group split. Nada and Jasmina decided to spend the day skiing on the sun, while Gregor and me went exploring the new slopes to the south and in the ended we ended on Marmolada at an altitude of 3265 meters. At noon we regrouped and spent the rest of the day skiing together. We finished skiing a little past 4 p.m. and for the end we stopped by at Bar Peter and after a drink Gregor drove us back to Slovenia. Overall we spent amazing five days together, with a lot of skiing hours.

Italy: Skiing in Dolomites: Day 3

On day 3 of our skiing expedition in the Dolomites, Nada, Jasmina, Gregor and me decided to test some Nordica skis. I tried 2 of them and both were good, although I would prefer radius to be somewhere around 16 m - 18 m. At the second test, Nada injured her knee, so we sent her home to rest and we continued skiing. We decided for another Sella Ronda circle, this time in anticlockwise direction.
